Seven feature films have moved forward in the Oscar race for makeup and hairstyling, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Tuesday.
Members of the Academy’s Makeup Artists and Hairstylists Branch will be able to view 10-minute clips of the films on Jan. 6, and they will winnow the list to three Oscar nominees.
The films advancing in the category are:
— “Bright”;
— “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”;
— “I, Tonya”;
— “Victoria & Abdul”; and
Meanwhile, the Academy announced that 341 feature films are eligible for the best picture prize. To be eligible, films must open in a commercial movie theater in Los Angeles County by midnight Dec. 31 and run for seven consecutive days. Films must be longer than 40 minutes and be exhibited in 35mm or 70mm, or in an acceptable digital format.
Oscar nominations will be announced Jan. 23, with the 90th Academy Awards scheduled for March 4.
