Attorneys for Kern County filed court papers this week asking to be kept abreast of upcoming probate proceedings regarding the late mass-murderer Charles Manson.
The Kern County County Counsel’s Office is asking the Los Angeles Superior Court to provide them with “all matters for which special notice may be requested.”
The County Counsel’s Office is acting on behalf of the Kern County sheriff-coroner’s office, according to their court papers filed Wednesday. The next hearing is scheduled Jan. 8. Manson’s remains are in the custody of the sheriff-coroner’s office as officials there seek to identify his next of kin.
Manson spent nearly 50 years at the Corcoran prison in Kings County, and died at Bakersfield Mercy Hospital in Kern County. His heart failure was triggered by colon cancer that had spread to other areas of his body.
Former Manson pen pal Michael Channels says a will left by the infamous criminal left the Channels all of Manson’s possessions. Manson’s grandson, Jason Freeman, also is trying to obtain the remains.
