Mo Brooks the politician beat Mel Brooks the comedian for write-in votes in the Dec. 12 Alabama election for U.S. Senate.

But that wasn’t the strangest result in the race won by Democrat Doug Jones over Republican Roy Moore (not counting GOP primary loser Luther Strange).

Among the nearly 23,000 write-ins, “votes were recorded for … Ellen DeGeneres, the ghost of Confederate general Stonewall Jackson and ‘Muppets’ star Kermit The Frog,” notes The Hill.

Of course, Alabama football coach Nick Saban collected votes — 264. But even LSU head coach Ed Orgeron’s name was written in.

Others winning support were TV personality Tim Gunn, Ellen actor Tom Selleck, conservative pundit Ben Shapiro, and the deceased Cincinnati Zoo gorilla Harambe. Also the late George Wallace and Moore accuser Leigh Corfman.

Even “God” had some fans.
