Los Angeles fans of Paul Simon won’t have to wait long for his final sound of silence. His last tour comes to the Hollywood Bowl in May, ending a 50-year career on the road.

“Homeward Bound – The Farewell Tour” by the famed singer-songwriter, now 76, arrives May 22 and 23 — the fourth stop of a journey beginning May 16 in Vancouver and ending in July in Europe.

“I’ve often wondered what it would feel like to reach the point where I’d consider bringing my performing career to a natural end. Now I know: it feels a little unsettling, a touch exhilarating and something of a relief,” Simon said in a statement quoted by Rolling Stone.

“I love making music, my voice is still strong, and my band is a tight, extraordinary group of gifted musicians. I think about music constantly. I am very grateful for a fulfilling career and, of course, most of all to the audiences who heard something in my music that touched their hearts.”

After North America, Simon and his band will visit European venues, ending July 15 with a “Farewell Performance” in London with James Taylor and Bonnie Raitt.

Earlier, Elton John, Ozzy Osbourne, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Slayer announced farewell tours of their own.

Social media breathed a sigh of relief that his name trending wasn’t news of another end.
