Chevy Chase is 74, and far from his pratfall days on “Saturday Night Live.” But it isn’t known whether he was dropped when a 22-year-old driver kicked him in the shoulder.
New York State police are being quoted in a story about Chase chasing another driver who supposedly cut him off Feb. 9 on northbound Interstate 87.
Thinking that his own 2015 Dodge Ram was damaged in the close encounter, Chase followed the other driver across the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge (aka the Tappan Zee Bridge) over the Hudson River and flashed his headlights at him, state police told a local newspaper.
“They pulled over near Exit 10 in South Nyack in Rockland County, where the two men exchanged words before the other driver — a 22-year-old Long Island man — kicked Chase in the shoulder,” the paper said, citing state police.
The young man said he kicked Chase to block a punch, said police, who weren’t able to confirm that.
The 22-year-old faces second-degree harassment charges and is due back in court March. 5.
Chase, a former Angeleno, has not commented publicly, at least not on Twitter, where he tweets an average of once a month.
