Ellen DeGeneres is shown in 2011 photo promoting her show in Boston. But labels were added later.

Ellen DeGeneres is certainly for gun control, but she didn’t demand to be surrounded by armed guards at an anti-gun rally.

A picture is circulating that shows the talk-show host in a crowd including police, but it wasn’t as claimed.

“This meme does not show Ellen DeGeneres at an anti-gun rally,” said fact-checker Dan Evon of Snopes.com.

“There is not one single definitive image of a gun. It was actually taken in Boston in August 2011, when DeGeneres was in the city to promote her show.”

The hoax-busting site quoted show info: “DeGeneres, who will take over Oprah Winfrey’s 4 p.m. hour on WCVB-TV Channel 5, spent the morning seeing the sights from a Boston Duck Tours boat, then danced for the thousands of fans who showed up at Quincy Market to welcome her to town.”

Sites including DC Whispers and dailyheadlinesnow.com spread the falsehood.

Others jumped on board the meme.
