‘Roma,’ ‘Green Book’ Look to Gain Oscar Momentum at Producers Guild Awards

“Green Book” took home the big prize Sunday evening at the Producers Guild of America’s awards, winning the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for top feature film of 2018, during a ceremony at the Beverly Hilton hotel.

The 1960s drama-comedy starring Mahershala Ali as a concert pianist and Viggo Mortensen as his bodyguard, topped other Oscar favorites as “Roma” and “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Vice.”

“Green Book” and “Bohemian Rhapsody” have already won Golden Globe Awards for best comedy/musical and drama film, respectively, although those prizes are presented by the relatively small Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The Mexican film “Roma” by director Alfonso Cuaron was named best picture at the Critics’ Choice Awards.

The PGA, which has about 8,200 members, has matched the Oscar for best picture in 20 of its 29 years, including “The Shape of Water” last year.
