A 25-year-old motorist suspected of driving drunk was killed and his 24-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries in a rollover crash Sunday morning on the Long Beach Freeway (710) in Paramount, authorities said.

Paramedics dispatched at 1:25 a.m. to the northbound freeway, south of the Glen Anderson (105) Freeway, reported one person dead at the scene, said Capt. Ron Singleton of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

A Los Angeles resident driving a 2005 GMC Yukon in the No. 2 lane of the northbound freeway veered to the right and struck the metal guardrail, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The SUV then went through the guardrail and overturned into a brush area along the right shoulder.

The motorist, who was ejected from his vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:44 a.m., the CHP said, and his passenger, a 24-year-old woman also from Los Angeles — who was ejected from the vehicle — suffered minor injuries and was taken to St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood.

Alcohol was suspected to be a factor in the crash, the CHP said.

The CHP’s East Los Angeles office asked anyone who saw the crash to call them at (323) 980-4600.
