“Frozen 2” begins streaming on Disney+ Sunday, three months earlier than originally planned, in what The Walt Disney Co. called an attempt to provide “families with some fun and joy during this challenging period.”
“`Frozen 2′ has captivated audiences around the world through its powerful themes of perseverance and the importance of family, messages that are incredibly relevant during this time, and we are pleased to be able to share this heartwarming story early with our Disney+ subscribers to enjoy at home on any device,” said Bob Chapek, the company’s CEO.
The 2019 animated musical fantasy about the journey to discover the origin of Queen Elsa’s magical powers received a best original song Oscar nomination for “Into the Unknown.”
“Frozen 2” received eight Annie Award nominations, which honor animated films and television programming. It won for outstanding achievement for animated effects in an animated production and outstanding achievement for voice acting in an animated feature production for Josh Gad, who supplied the voice of Olaf, the snowman created by Elsa’s magic.
“Frozen 2” has a worldwide box office gross of more than $1.4 billion, 10th all-time.
