With residents living under strict stay-at-home orders due to the coronavirus, the Pasadena Tournament of Roses is hoping that a parade — albeit a virtual one — will lift people’s spirits.
Tournament officials announced Thursday they will host the inaugural Rosebud Parade, which will showcase fan-made floats, on May 28 via Facebook Live.
“We’re excited to see what those creative, young minds can build!,” according to a Tournament of Roses statement. “While our staff and volunteer members are diligently working on the 2021 Rose Parade presented by Honda, we thought we’d have a little celebration along the way.”
Would-be parade participants are being encouraged to construct floats from otherwise-mundane household objects, such as recycled newspaper, construction paper, action figures/dolls and/or leaves.
Amateur float-builders must submit a video of their entry to firstname.lastname@example.org before May 11. A compilation of the fan- created floats will be posted to the Tournament of Roses Facebook page on May 28.
Complete submission guidelines are available at https://tournamentofroses.com/events/rosebudparade/.
