“The New Mutants” opened to an estimated $7 million this weekend in North America, as theaters gradually reopen after months of inactivity due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The 20th Century Studios’ youth-oriented fantasy appeared on 2,412 screens in the United States and Canada, according to the industry tracking group Comscore.
“Unhinged,” a violent thriller starring Russell Crowe, grossed $2.6 million in its second weekend in North American theaters, playing at 2,331 locations.

Searchlight Pictures’ “The Personal History of David Copperfield” made $520,000 at 1,360 locations.
“Words On Bathroom Walls,” based on the novel by Julia Walton and released by LD Entertainment and Roadside Attractions, earned an estimated $453,360 Friday through Sunday on 1,356 U.S. screens, Comscore reported.
Paramount’s “The Spongebob Movie: Sponge On The Run,” which is playing in Canada only, earned $400,000 at 314 locations in its third weekend for a cumulative total of $2.94 million.
