Officers recovered four handguns, a large amount of narcotics and a stolen vehicle during three separate traffic stops in Azusa, a police spokesman said Saturday.
In all, five arrests were made.
The overnight gun seizures netted a loaded 9mm handgun, a 9mm Sig Sauer pistol and a Tec-9-style pistol as well as a .40-caliber Glock handgun, Azusa Police Sgt. Seth Chapman said.
At about 12:50 a.m. Saturday, officers tried to contact a man they said was a “suspicious subject” on a bicycle, who attempted to flee.
“He was chased and caught, and during the chase he discarded a loaded 9mm FN handgun,” Chapman said.
Alvaro Gomez, 20, of Azusa, was arrested on suspicion of illegal possession of a firearm and resisting arrest, Chapman said. Police did not release the location of the arrest.
At about 3:50 a.m., officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Paramount Street and Aspan Avenue and recovered a Tec-9 style pistol, a 9mm Sig Sauer pistol and a large amount of narcotics, Chapman said.
The driver, Raymond Arellano, 41, of Azusa, was arrested on suspicion of illegal possession of firearms and narcotics sales, he said.
At about 10:30 p.m. Friday, officers conducting a traffic stop of a stolen vehicle in the area of Citrus Avenue and Baseline Street found an unregistered “ghost” .40-caliber Glock handgun inside the vehicle, Chapman said.
Elliott Mendez, 28, of Baldwin Park, Erika Beltran, 29, of El Monte and Jessica Miranda, 29, of Duarte, were arrested on suspicion of illegal possession of a firearm and grand theft auto, he said.
