Fran Drescher was elected president of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists defeating Matthew Modine, 52.5%-47.5%, the union announced.
Drescher was endorsed by outgoing President Gabrielle Carteris, who chose not to run for re-election after serving in the post since 2016. Her two-year term began immediately upon the certification of the ballot count Thursday.
“Today marks the beginning of a fresh start, let us forge forward in a holistic and non-partisan ascension towards the precipice of a new dawn,” said Drescher, who starred in the 1993-99 CBS comedy “The Nanny.”
“Only as a united front will we have strength against the real opposition in order to achieve what we all want — more benefits, stronger contracts and better protections.”
