Dick Halligan, Grammy Award winning member of the rock group Blood, Sweat & Tears, has died, according to a report on the People.com website. He was 78.
Halligan was a founding member of the rock band from 1967 to 1971. Halligan’s daughter Shana told People that her father died on Jan. 18 in Rome, Italy, of natural causes. Halligan grew up in Glen Falls, New York.
He earned a master’s degree from the Manhattan School of Music in theory and composition before joining Blood, Sweat & Tears.
The band won Grammy Awards in 1970 for album of the year, their self-title second album “Blood, Sweat & Tears.” Halligan also won a Grammy Award for best contemporary instrumental performance.
Halligan is survived by his daughter Shana, his son-in-law, Eric, his grandson, Otis and his stepson, Buddy.
