Emmy Award-winning production sound mixer Phillip W. Palmer will be honored with the Cinema Audio Society’s 2027 Career Achievement Award at the group’s annual awards ceremony next March in Beverly Hills, the organization announced Tuesday.
Palmer will receive the society’s highest honor during the 63rd annual CAS Awards on March 6 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, according to the organization.
“From the stage at `Glee’ to the tension of `Better Call Saul,’ Phillip’s ear for clarity and nuance has shaped some of the most acclaimed sound work in television,” CAS President Peter Kurland said in a statement. “His service to this Society, and to Local 695, reflects a career built on generosity as much as talent.”
Palmer won an Emmy Award for his work on “Glee” and received a Cinema Audio Society Award for the series finale of “Better Call Saul,” along with multiple additional nominations.
“I’m deeply honored to receive this recognition from the Cinema Audio Society,” Palmer said. “This career started with me working my way up from utility and boom operator, and every step since has been shaped by the people I’ve worked alongside. To be recognized by this community, people I respect enormously, means the world to me.”
In addition to his production work, Palmer serves as treasurer of IATSE Local 695. He is a former vice president of the Cinema Audio Society and a former governor of the Television Academy’s Sound Mixers Peer Group.
Past recipients of the Career Achievement Award include Walter Murch, Gary Rydstrom, Anna Behlmer, Tom Fleischman, Randy Thom, Andy Nelson, Skip Lievsay, Willie Burton and Les Fresholtz.
