A smartphone app created for Griffith Park was introduced Monday to teach children about plants and animals found along one of the area’s most popular trails.
The Agents of Nature app calls on the park’s young visitors to become “secret” detectives investigating the “mysteries” of the plants, animals and sites along the Charlie Turner Trailhead, which starts at the Griffith Observatory.
The app was created by the nonprofit Get to Know, through a $20,000 grant from Verizon and in consultation with the city’s park rangers.
Students from Allesandro Elementary School were among the first to try out the application during an event at Griffith Park. They were asked to complete education challenges as they made their way through the Berlin Forest and past Captain’s Roost point and Dante’s View on their way to reaching Mount Hollywood.
