“Winnie the Roo” was chosen out of more than 500 suggestions as the winning name for a baby Western gray kangaroo at the Los Angeles Zoo, it was announced Friday.
The name got the most votes in the zoo’s NameOurRoo contest, which was held online. The contest website received 12,000 visits, with total of 5,082 votes cast, zoo officials said.
Los Angeles resident Patricia Beauchamp, who came up with the winning name, will receive a GoPro HERO4Camera as her prize.
“Penelope,” offered up by Cody Grindol, and “Keanu,” from Delia G., were the runner-up names.
