Metro Gold Line service between Union Station and Little Tokyo in downtown Los Angeles will be disrupted beginning Friday night and continuing for about three months as work begins to relocate train tracks to accommodate tunneling for a new subway connection.
Beginning at 9 p.m., the Gold Line Little Tokyo Station will close, with crews beginning to relocate the Gold Line tracks at First and Alameda streets. With that closure, there will be no Gold Line service between Union Station and the Pico/Aliso Station.
Metro will offer bus shuttles between the stations, but passengers are being warned to expect delays.
Crews will be relocating the existing train tracks about 40 feet to the north of First Street at Alameda and reconfiguring the southern entrance to the Little Tokyo Station. The work is being done to prepare for the start of tunneling in the area for the Regional Connector, a subway designed to provide seamless connections between the Expo, Gold and Blue lines. The connector is scheduled for completion in 2020.
The Little Tokyo Station closure is expected to last up to three months, according to Metro.
The construction will also prompt occasional weekend closures of the First/Alameda intersection to the motorists. Those closures are scheduled for this weekend and the weekends of Feb. 12-15, Feb. 19-22 and Feb. 26-29.
