Getting into The Broad contemporary art museum in downtown Los Angeles may be free, but reserving a time to visit hasn’t been easy thanks to overwhelming demand that has led to reservations being quickly booked for weeks or months in advance.
So museum officials Tuesday announced an updated ticketing system aimed at making things easier.
Under the new policy, on the first day of each month, advance admission tickets will be released online for the following month. On May 1, for example, advance tickets will be available online for June. On June 1, tickets for July will be available.
Patrons who don’t have advance tickets and are willing to wait in line can still go directly to the museum and join a stand-by line.
The museum on June 11 will open the special exhibition “Cindy Sherman: Imitation of Life.” Tickets for that exhibition are $12 for adults — free for people 17 and under — and will be made available online on the same schedule as the free advance-reservation tickets. A ticket for the special exhibition also provides access to the rest of The Broad, 221 S. Grand Ave.
The museum will remain open until midnight this Saturday, which is the last day of its inaugural special installation featuring works of Ragnar Kjartansson, Takashi Murakami, Chris Burden, Jenny Saville, Mark Grotjahn, John Currin and others.
Museum tickets are available online at here.
