A 41-year-old man and a 9-year-old boy were killed in a three-vehicle crash that also left three other people with minor to moderate injuries near Hemet, authorities said Wednesday.
Nicholas and Dominic McWhirter, both of Covina, were fatally injured shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Ramona Expressway and Lincoln Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A Nissan Rogue driven by an 18-year-old Hemet woman was traveling at an unspecified rate of speed northbound within the left turn lane of Lincoln Avenue approaching the intersection with Ramona Expressway, according to the CHP. A Nissan Versa was traveling eastbound on Ramona Expressway approaching the intersection with Lincoln Avenue, when the two-vehicles collided at the intersection.
The impact caused the Versa to spin out of control into the westbound lanes of Ramona Expressway and hit a Ford Mustang Mach-E.
The Versa’s driver, Nicholas, and the child were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver and passenger of the Nissan Rogue and the Ford driver were all taken to Riverside University Health System with unspecified injuries.
It was not immediately known if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash, the CHP said.
