The county Board of Supervisors on Tuesday will consider extending and increasing a reward being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people who killed a 17-year-old high school graduate in Torrance.
Chyler Paton was fatally shot around 9 p.m. June 18, 2025, while attending an end-of-school-year pool party at a home in the 23000 block of Huber Avenue. Paton had just graduated from Culver City High School, where he played football.
The county Board of Supervisors in August 2025 approved a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for the killing. The reward was extended last November and again in February.
On Tuesday, the board will consider a motion by Supervisor Janice Hahn to again extend the reward offer, and to increase the amount to $50,000. Hahn noted in her motion that a person of interest was arrested during the investigation into the killing, but there was not enough evidence for any criminal charges to be filed.
Hahn wrote in the motion that detectives “believe there may be witnesses who may be able to provide corroborating information.”
“In an effort to encourage members of the community who may have information about this incident to come forward, investigators believe reestablishing and increasing the reward from the County of Los Angeles may assist in their efforts in convicting the person(s) responsible for Mr. Paton’s murder,” the motion states.
