More than 15,000 people are expected Sunday for what’s billed as the “largest-ever Israeli Independence Day celebration” in Southern California.

The Israeli-American Council will host the “Israel: A Mosaic of Jewish Cultures” festival at the Cheviot Hills Recreation Center at 2551 Motor Ave.  Israel’s official Independence Day was Thursday.

Israeli musician Rita and other performers from Israel will entertain. The Tiger Squadron formation flying team will perform at 3:15 p.m., beginning the official ceremony with local dignitaries. That will be hosted by Israeli-American actor Mike Burstyn.

The National Council of Jewish Women Los Angeles will have its “mega-booth” selling “Judaica” at the festival.

The event was scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
