Southland thrill-seekers will have a new attraction to visit beginning Saturday, when a 45-foot glass slide mounted on the side of the U.S. Bank Tower in downtown Los Angeles opens for business — 70 stories above the ground.

The new attraction, the Skyslide, will offer riders a chance to slide from the 70th story to the 69th story of L.A.’s tallest building, a trip that takes about four seconds. The slide is made of clear glass, 1 1/4-inch thick, giving riders a panoramic view of the city around them and the street below.

When riders finish the slide, they will emerge onto an open-air, 360- degree observation deck on the 69th floor.

“The Skyslide boasts a safe, thrilling experience unlike any other in the world,” according to Lucy Rumantir of Overseas Union Enterprises Limited, owner of the U.S. Bank Tower. “Guests of all ages will have the opportunity to transform their view of Los Angeles as they glide down, gazing at unparalleled views of the city.”

The slide and two-story Skyspace observation deck will open Saturday, with a free block party — on the ground — from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. The event will feature food trucks, activities, a beer garden and musical entertainment including Snoop Dogg.

Tickets are being sold for the slide and the observation deck at www.skyspace-la.com/tickets.

Slide tickets start at $27, which includes the trip down the slide and admission to the Skyspace observation deck. Tickets are available online and are sold for timed intervals. Tickets just for the observation deck start at $19.

The 1,018-foot-tall U.S. Bank Tower will lose its title as the tallest building on the West Coast when the nearby Wilshire Grand Tower is completed in 2017. That 73-story building, developed by Korean Air, will be 1,100 feet high.
