Californians are getting a bit of bad news and good news Sunday morning: heat is returning to Southern California next week, but the beaches will not be broiling again.
The National Weather Service has issued heat advisories for inland areas, where even mountain resorts are expected to top 100 degrees starting Sunday.
And dry air — less than 10 percent humidity — was expected to blanket the area.
High temperatures today through Wednesday will top 90 downtown and 100 in the San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys, the NWS predicted. In the Inland Empire, make that 105 degrees.
But the beaches will top out in the 80s, far below the 100-plus temperatures recorded last weekend at some backyard weather stations on the coast last weekend, forecasters said.
