The body of a woman “pack rat” was found under debris in a cluttered house in the Valley Village area where crews doused a fire Friday.
The blaze was reported in the 4600 block of North Farmdale Avenue, said Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Firefighters encountered “excessive storage” issues and transitioned to a defensive mode, fighting the blaze from the exterior in an effort to prevent the flames from spreading to other structures, she said.
It wasn’t clear what those “excessive storage” issues were in the 7:37 a.m. fire, but such a phrase is often used in connection with people referred to as “pack rats” who store in their homes large amounts of materials that could be otherwise thought of as rubbish.
