A big rig flipped onto its side Friday morning in Palmdale — killing, injuring and setting loose some of the more than 150 cows it was hauling.

Deputies, firefighters and animal control officers worked to corral the surviving bovines and even a few local ranchers pitched in to help rustle up the cows, the deputy said.
The big rig driver was uninjured, according to a Los Angeles County Fire Department inspector who said crews were working into the afternoon to find a place to temporarily relocate the cattle.
Animal rights activists who went to the scene expressed dismay to an ABC7 reporter over the dead and injured livestock.
