Transportation and elected officials Thursday celebrated the opening of a $5.2 million park-and-ride facility in Westlake Village designed to encourage carpools and vanpools in hopes of reducing the number of vehicles on the congested Ventura (101) Freeway.
The 400-space lot located near Thousand Oaks Boulevard and Lindero Canyon Road is designed to provide a place for carpooling commuters to gather.
“It will give motorists in the Las Virgenes-Malibu area a place to meet and share the ride, which reduced pollution and vehicle miles traveled, and improves our ability to manage 101 freeway capacity,” said Duarte Councilman John Fasana, chairman of the Metro Board of Directors.
Metro board member Ara Najarian, a member of the Glendale City Council, noted that the 101 Freeway is one of the region’s most heavily traveled routes.
“New rideshare amenities like this can help us in efforts to keep this major artery moving as quickly and efficiently as possible,” he said.
