An 82-year-old woman who suffers from dementia and apparently walked away from her nursing home in Valley Glen was found near the facility, authorities said Monday.

Katharina Fritz Linzer was found Sunday near the Windsor Gardens Healthcare Center of the Valley at 13000 Victory Blvd., said Police Services Representative Stacy Ball of the Los Angeles Police Department Van Nuys Station.

The woman had been out overnight, and it wasn’t clear where she’d spent those hours. Specifics of her physical condition after the ordeal were not immediately available, but there was no indication she’d suffered any additional problems.

Police interviewed staff members who told them the woman had been at the center at 7 p.m. Saturday and they didn’t know where she went. The woman was located more than 12 hours later, and it wasn’t clear where she’d spent the night.

Police searched the area using bloodhounds, Ball said. But it was a resident who contacted police with the woman’s whereabouts. She was returned to the nursing home, Ball said.
