A homeless woman stripped off most of her clothes and threatened to hurl herself from a freeway overpass Monday in Riverside but was stopped by other transients, who called police.

The mentally disturbed woman, whose identity was not released, peeled off multiple layers of clothing and climbed the fence on the Blaine Street bridge over southbound Interstate 215 about noon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
She got down off the fence but climbed back up and declared that she was going to jump into traffic, at which point several transients grabbed her and pulled her down, the CHP said.
Passersby called 911, and several CHP units raced to the location, taking the woman into custody without incident, according to reports from the scene.
She was turned over to Riverside police, who apparently arranged to have her transported to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
