Work is scheduled to begin Monday to replace a section of a natural gas transmission pipeline along a portion of Crenshaw Boulevard in Inglewood, which will necessitate reducing northbound traffic to one lane.

About 1.1 miles of transmission pipeline will be replaced on Crenshaw as part of the Southern California Gas Co.’s multibillion-dollar program to test and upgrade its natural gas pipeline infrastructure throughout Central and Southern California.

Work will start this morning — weather permitting — on Crenshaw at 104th Street. Crews will work south, toward 111th Place, and two of the three northbound lanes will be closed during work hours Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In addition, work must be done beneath Crenshaw at 118th Place. That project is right next to the Crenshaw interchange with the Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway, and it will mean closure of the westbound 105 exit on weekdays from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting in a few weeks, a SoCalGas spokeswoman said.

The project is expected to take a little more than three months to complete, according to the utility.
