A task force of 70 Los Angeles firefighters, four dogs and assorted equipment was headed to the Texas coast to aid in Hurricane Harvey rescue and relief efforts.
The task force began the logistical process by gathering at Fire Station 88 at 5101 Sepulveda Boulevard in Sherman Oaks, said Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department. Once they are prepared, they will set out for Texas.
The LAFD task force is the second from Southern California to be summoned to Texas. An Orange County task force left Irvine for San Antonio Friday.
