A 69-year-old woman was fatally injured in a two-vehicle crash with a big rig while attempting to exit the Glendale (2) Freeway in Glendale, the California Highway Patrol said Sunday.
The crash at the northbound freeway, just south of Mountain Street, occurred about 1:50 p.m. Friday, the CHP reported.
The woman, driving a 2004 Acura, was attempting to exit from the Mountain Street offramp at an unknown speed, as a 2012 Peterbilt was going about 55 miles per hour in the number five lane of traffic.
Details are still sketchy, but the Acura somehow struck the left side of the big rig causing both vehicles to go across all lanes of traffic and crash into the center divider.
The big rig “came to rest on top of the center divider,” the CHP said, facing in a north westerly direction and the Acura “came to rest within the center divider, facing in a north westerly direction.”
Paramedics rushed the woman, the lone occupant in her car, to Huntington Memorial Hospital, where the Altadena resident later died from her injuries. It was not known whether the driver in the big rig, a 38-year-old man, was injured.
The CHP’s Altadena area office asked anyone who saw the crash to call them at (626) 296-8100.
