Drivers heading from Los Angeles towards Simi Valley or the Newhall Pass will face late night closures and detours Sunday evening and the next four nights, Caltrans officials warned Sunday.
The northbound Golden State (5) Freeway will be closed for five hours in Pacoima, starting at midnight Sunday evening, as will be the transition ramp from the northbound 5 to the westbound Simi Valley (118) Freeway. All traffic will be detoured to the eastbound 118.
The closures will be repeated Monday through Thursday nights at midnight, with the freeway and ramp scheduled to open at 5 a.m. Monday through Friday.
Traffic will be squeezed onto the eastbound 118, and drivers seeking the 5 north can continue east to the nearby Foothill (210) Freeway, which will take them back to the 5.
Traffic heading towards the 118 west can exit the 118 east at San Fernando Road, make two left turns, and re-enter the 118 west there.
Lane restrictions in the area will begin as early as 10 p.m. each night, Sunday through Thursday.
Caltrans officials said the closures are part of a project to repair concrete barriers and a bridge-mounted sign structure that were damaged in a previous traffic incident.
