An 18-year-old man was killed Monday in Pomona in a single-vehicle crash that caused major injuries to two teenage girls.
Another man in the 2004 Ford Expedition suffered moderate injuries in the crash, which was reported about 3:40 a.m. on the White Avenue off-ramp from the eastbound San Bernardino (10) Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP reported that the SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed as it exited the freeway and failed to negotiate a curve before driving onto the right shoulder and into a light pole.
The Ford then struck a chain-link fence and overturned several times before coming to rest on White Avenue, according to the CHP, which reported that a 15-year-old El Monte resident was ejected from the SUV as it was overturning.
Emergency personnel pronounced the driver, a resident of El Monte, dead at the scene, according to the CHP.
The 15-year-old, who was the only one in the SUV not belted into her seat, was taken to a hospital along with a 17-year-old El Monte girl who also suffered major injuries, the CHP reported.
Another passenger, an 18-year-old South El Monte man, sustained a head laceration, according to the CHP.
