An 85-year-old man reported missing by the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office in Arizona while en route to Kingman and spotted in Palmdale was apprehended while crossing the border from Mexico into San Diego, authorities said Monday.
Charles Dearstien was contacted by a sheriff’s deputy at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Palmdale and the deputy believed he was coherent with no apparent mental issues, Deputy Tracy Koerner of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said.
The U.S. Border Patrol noticed Dearstein at the border crossing in his red 2002 Ford Ranger and took him into custody at 11 p.m. Sunday, Koerner said. He was taken to a hospital while efforts were underway to locate relatives.
