A man suffered major injuries when he was struck by a black SUV while running in lanes of the Golden State (5) Freeway in Sun Valley, authorities said Monday.

It was reported at 9:29 p.m. on the northbound Golden State Freeway at Lankershim Boulevard, California Highway Patrol Officer Patrick Kimball said.

Witnesses told the CHP the man was walking across lanes from the right shoulder to the center divider, Kimball said.

The man’s condition was not available, he said.

It is possible the man was trying to get to a homeless encampment near the freeway, Kimball said.
