Two men were injured, one of them critically, when a slab of concrete fell on them while they were working Tuesday afternoon in a trench at a construction site in Sherman Oaks.
The workers became trapped about 2:30 p.m. in the 5300 block of Tyrone Avenue, according to Nicholas Prange of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Both were freed by firefighters and taken to a hospital, Prange said.
One was in critical condition and the other was in fair condition, he said.
Crews used airbags to extricate the workers, both of them men who were working around the foundation of a building site in a residential neighborhood, according to a report from the scene.
