A tanker truck, possibly damaged by metal debris, leaked diesel fuel into a lane on the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway in Irwindale, temporarily closing several lanes and requiring a cleanup effort by county firefighters and a Hazmat team, according to the L.A. County Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol.

The incident on the southbound 605 Freeway near Live Oak Avenue, took place about 10:45 a.m., the CHP reported.

The county fire department dispatched 29 firefighters including a department Hazmat team to the location to deal with the spill, L.A. County fire spokesman Franklin Lopez said.

The truck sustained a puncture wound to its tanker trailer, according to the CHP.

The CHP temporarily shut down the numbers 3 and 4 lanes for the cleanup. The lanes were reopened about 2:30 p.m.

No injuries were reported.
