A man was injured Saturday and required rescue by firefighters when he jumped off a bridge into the concrete-lined Los Angeles River flood control channel in Studio City, authorities said.

It was reported just before 4 p.m. at 4058 North Laurel Canyon Blvd., according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

“He is conscious and alert with unspecified injury,” Humphrey said.

Firefighters were lowered into the mostly dry channel, where they put the patient into a litter basket-style stretcher and lifted him using 24-foot ladders, he said. The patient was placed inside an awaiting ambulance and taken to a hospital.
