Authorities Wednesday identified a man who was killed in a California Highway Patrol officer-involved shooting in Monterey Park.
Mark Jones, 36, died at the scene of the shooting that occurred about 8:20 p.m. Monday on the eastbound Pomona (60) Freeway near Garfield Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office and the CHP. His home town was not known.
Officers were helping Caltrans with a project in the area at the time of the shooting.
“They initiated an enforcement stop,” CHP Capt. Salvador Suarez told reporters at the scene. “At some point during the enforcement stop, an officer-involved shooting occurred with one individual.”
Further details of the shooting were not released.
