A tanker truck overturned and caught fire Monday on the southbound Antelope Valley (14) Freeway in the Lancaster area, damaging a bridge and igniting a small grass fire near the center divider.

The crash was reported about 11 a.m. near Avenue J, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Firefighters quickly extinguished both fires and were assessing a possible leak of fuel from the truck.

Northbound lanes were reopened about noon, and all but one southbound lane were open by 8:30 p.m., according to Caltrans. That lane was expected to be closed until crews repaired the damaged bridge.
