Authorities Tuesday identified a 28-year-old driver who was killed when his vehicle went over the side of a cliff in the Angeles National Forest in Tujunga.

The crash was reported at about 7 p.m. Sunday on Angeles Crest Highway (2) at mile marker 33.40, according to California Highway Patrol Officer C. Villanueva.

The white Infiniti vehicle was westbound on the highway when, for reasons still under investigation, the driver lost control, going off the side of the road, Villanueva said.

Cristian Jesus Montiel Luna was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP and the coroner’s office. Reports from the scene indicated the vehicle may have dropped 400 feet.

A 28-year-old Rosemead woman who was the passenger in the Infiniti suffered major injuries and was taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena.

It was not known if drugs and/or alcohol contributed to the crash, Villanueva said.
