“Last Man Standing” begins its final season at 9:31 p.m. Sunday evening on Fox with an episode starting in the present day, but soon jumps forward three years, which is when the entire season will be set.
“People are depressed enough without having to look for us to be depressed,” showrunner Kevin Abbott told the website TVLine. The time jump “allowed us to tell stories from a positive point of view while addressing the impact (the pandemic has had) on our characters. They all change in a way.”
The episode has middle daughter Mandy (Molly McCook) returning to the Baxter home with her husband Kyle (Christoph Sanders) and 3-year-old daughter Sarah (Sophia McKinlay).
Fox announced Oct. 14 that “Last Man Standing” would end its run this season, its third on Fox and ninth overall. It aired on ABC from 2011-17 and on Fox since 2018.
“We had all considered to end the show after last season, but together with Fox, we decided to add a year so we could produce a full season to create the gentle and fun goodbye,” said series star and executive producer Tim Allen.
