A big rig crashed and caught fire on the Foothill (210) Freeway in Lake View Terrace Wednesday, causing both the eastbound and westbound sides to be almost completely shut down for hours.

The truck crashed through the center divider near Foothill Boulevard at about 6 p.m., according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The truck came to a rest on it’s side and burst into flames. The LAFD announced at about 6:25 p.m. that the fire had been extinguished.

The driver of the truck was taken to a hospital with minor, non-life threatening injuries. A passenger in the truck and a driver of a second vehicle involved in the collision were evaluated at the scene and declined to be taken to a hospital.

All but the westbound carpool lane were closed at Osborne Street until at least 9 p.m. as LAFD units remained at the scene to clean a fuel leak and clear the wreck from the freeway, Stewart said.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
