A man was killed and a woman was injured Wednesday after a driver lost control of a pickup truck and crashed into a guardrail, sending them off the side of the road in the Newhall area.

The truck lost control for an unknown reason and crashed just after 3:50 p.m. in the area of 8155 Escondido Canyon Road, rolling over several times into an embankment, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Los Angeles County Fire Department units were called to the scene and arrived just after 4:10 p.m. The man and the woman were taken to a hospital with unknown injuries.

The man died of his wounds at the hospital. His name was not immediately released. The woman’s condition was not known, according to a county fire department spokesperson.

It was not immediately known which of the two occupants was driving the truck at the time of the crash.
