It took 89 firefighters less than 40 minutes to put out a greater-alarm fire in a Boyle Heights auto repair shop.
The fire was reported at 5:16 p.m. at 3517 E. 16th St. and flames were showing through the roof when firefighters arrived and began their attack, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.
The flames extended into an adjacent commercial building east of the repair shop and outside into an alley, where at least two vehicles were damaged, Stewart said.
The flames were out at 5:55 p.m., she said. No injuries were reported.
Live power lines were down in multiple places around the burned building and the LA Department of Water and Power was sending a crew to de-energize the lines, Stewart said.
An investigation into the cause of the fire was underway and firefighters remained at the scene making sure all hot spots were out, she said.
