The driver who died after a speeding pickup rear ended his vehicle on a Wilmington street was identified by county authorities Tuesday.
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s office identified the person killed as Saul Zuniga, 44, whose city of residence was not released.
The crash was reported at 7:20 p.m. Friday in the 1100 block of West Harry Bridges Boulevard, according to Sgt. M. Nguyen of the Los Angeles Police Department’s South Traffic Division.
The pickup was going westbound at a high rate of speed when it slammed into Zuniga’s vehicle, which was also headed westbound, Nguyen said.
The pickup driver suffered minor injuries and was taken into custody, Nguyen said.
The official cause of Zuniga’s death was due to traumatic injuries, the coroner’s officer said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation will determine whether alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in the crash, Nguyen said.
