The Cathedral City Fire Department Saturday will close out its series of events aimed at promoting community safety, education and engagement.

A free emergency preparedness community workshop will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Agua Caliente Elementary School, 30800 San Luis Rey Drive, according to a statement from the fire department. Attendees will learn about preparing for major emergencies and an emergency preparedness kit will be distributed to the first 25 people who arrive.

The series got underway Dec. 7, 2023, with two fall-prevention workshops, one each in Spanish and English at the Cathedral City Senior Center. It was conducted in partnership with the Desert Regional Medical Center.

The workshop provided information and tips on how to prevent falls, especially among older adults, through home safety modifications, exercises to improve balance and other preventative measures.

A smoke alarm installation campaign was subsequently held Jan. 20 throughout the community, during which firefighters and volunteers installed and tested smoke alarms at the Royal Palms Mobile Home Park to ensure homes were equipped with the “lifesaving device.”

The campaign was conducted in partnership with the American Red Cross to reduce the risk of fire-related injuries and to raise awareness about fire safety, fire officials said.

More information about the events can be found at cathedralcityfire.org.
