“Bob Marley: One Love” opened in first place at the box office this weekend, taking in $27.7 million Friday through Sunday, according to industry estimates released Sunday.
The biopic, which stars Kingsley Ben-Adir as the Jamaican reggae legend, opened on Wednesday. It easily beat out Sony and Marvel’s “Madame Web,” which grossed $15.1 million Friday through Sunday after some brutal reviews.
“Argylle” was third with $4.7 million in its third week at North American theaters, Comscore reported.
“Migration” was fourth with $3.7 million in its ninth week, followed by “The Chosen: Season 4 Episodes 4-6,” a multi-season drama about the life of Jesus Christ, which made $3.44 million in its opening weekend.
Rounding out the top 10 domestic releases were “Wonka” ($3.4 million), “The Beekeeper” ($3.2 million), “Anyone But You” ($2.4 million), “Lisa Frankenstein” ($2 million) and “Land of Bad” ($1.8 million).
This weekend’s overall three-day box office haul was estimated at $76.5 million. The year-to-date total is $764.1 million — down 15% from the figure at this time last year, according to Comscore.
