The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped Friday for the 11th consecutive day and 20th of the past 21, decreasing 1.2 cents to $5.198, its lowest amount since April 3.

The average price has decreased 17.4 cents over the past 21 days, including 1.7 cents Thursday, its largest decrease since Jan. 24, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It dropped nine consecutive days, was unchanged May 6 and resumed dropping the following day.

The average price is 7.3 cents less than one week ago and 19.4 cents lower than one month ago, but 36.8 cents more than one year ago. It has dropped $1.296 since rising to a record $6.494 on Oct. 5, 2022.

The Orange County average price dropped for the 21st time in 22 days, decreasing 1.9 cents to $5.105, its lowest amount since April 1. It has dropped 19.2 cents over the past 22 days, including 1.9 cents Thursday, its largest decrease since Jan. 17.

The Orange County average price is 8.5 cents less than one week ago and 24.4 cents lower than one month ago, but 31.6 cents more than one year ago. It has dropped $1.354 since rising to a record $6.459 on Oct. 5, 2022.

The Orange County average price dropped 17 consecutive days, rose two-tenths of a cent Monday and resumed decreasing the following day.

“California continues to have the highest average gas prices in the U.S., and despite a month of price declines, the state average price is still more than 40 cents higher than Hawaii, which is the second most expensive state for fuel,” said Doug Shupe, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s corporate communications manager.

The national average dropped for the seventh time in eight days, decreasing three-tenths of a cent to $3.597. It has dropped 4.5 cents over the past eight days, including seven-tenths of a cent Thursday.

The national average price is 3.9 cents less than one week ago and 6.3 cents lower than one month ago but 6.5 cents more than one year ago. It has dropped $1.419 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.
